Gorilla Tracking: An Unforgettable Encounter in the African Jungle

Gorilla tracking is one of the most profound and unforgettable wildlife experiences in the world.

Gorilla tracking in Rwanda

Deep in the misty forests of East and Central Africa, small groups of travelers trek through lush jungle terrain to come face-to-face with the endangered mountain gorillas—our closest relatives in the wild. It’s a journey that stirs the soul, blending adventure, conservation, and deep connection.

This rare experience is offered primarily in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park, and DR Congo’s Virunga National Park. These protected areas are home to the last remaining populations of mountain gorillas, and strict conservation measures ensure their continued survival while allowing visitors to meet them in their natural habitat. For now our servicesfor gorrilla tracking cover only Rwanda and Uganda, for security reasons.

Gorilla Tracking

Best time for gorilla tracking

Gorilla tracking starts early in the morning, with a briefing by park rangers and trackers. Treks can take anywhere from 1 to 6 hours, depending on the location of the gorilla family you’re assigned to. The journey through dense forest, muddy trails, and steep hills is challenging—but the reward is beyond measure.

Once the gorillas are located, you’ll spend a magical one hour in their presence, observing their behavior, family interactions, and quiet strength. Watching a silverback protectively oversee his group, or seeing young gorillas play just a few meters away, is a humbling experience that creates lifelong memories.

Gorilla tracking group sizes

Group sizes are limited to minimize impact, and strict guidelines are followed to protect the gorillas from human-borne illness. Your visit directly contributes to conservation efforts, local communities, and park operations, making gorilla tracking a truly sustainable travel experience.

Many travelers combine gorilla tracking with traditional safaris in Tanzania, Kenya, or Uganda, creating a rich and varied African adventure. It’s the perfect complement to big-game drives—offering a more intimate, emotional, and primal connection with nature.

Whether you’re a wildlife enthusiast, a conservation supporter, or simply seeking a once-in-a-lifetime journey, gorilla tracking offers something deeply personal and powerful. It’s not just a trek—it’s a pilgrimage into the heart of the wild.
